National Permanent Makeup Academy (formerly Nevada Permanent Makeup Academy) has gone national, hence the name change!
Las Vegas beginnings to national
We spent years developing one of the most intensive and well-rounded permanent makeup certifications available in Las Vegas. Our industry is highly regulated in our area, so we automatically were held to a higher standard when compared to places. Additionally, the 2 day “permanent makeup certifications” and one day microblading workshops were simply not producing artists who knew any of the important fundamental knowledge. Technicians who are receive such little education are unfortunately ill prepared to preform permanent makeup and pose a great risk to the public. Our programs were created to provide the students the knowledge required for licensing in our highly regulated area. We also wanted our graduates to be prepared and well equipped to conduct permanent makeup services in a safe and ethical manor.
Our permanent makeup training programs have become so popular in Las Vegas, students from out of state fly in to take our courses. We decided to make a comprehensible virtual classroom to offer programs to anyone, anywhere in the United States.
Workshop or authentic vocational training?
Our permanent makeup certification and training programs are not the fast track traveling workshop classes you see advertised on social media that promise you that you will be a “master artist” in a day, and you get a certificate just for showing up. You have real assignments and real requirements here you have to complete. We offer a real education, classes and are an established school.
What products do we retail?
We don’t sell retail! Why don’t we sell pigments and supplies? It is a conflict of interest. We educate our students about pigment ingredients and popular equipment so students can make educated choices. If we were trying to sell these products to our students, we would be biased and promote the products we retailed. Too many training facilities are primarily promoting products and are not giving students a well-rounded education. We do not want to focus on training our students to use a certain product so that they purchase them from us. We want to educate our students about permanent makeup so they can be great artists. A permanent makeup school’s primary function is to educate and provide a well-rounded training experience, so we chose education over pushing retail.
What is a Virtual Apprenticeship?
We actually monitor student progress in their virtual classrooms. We review assignments and art assignments so we can provide individual direction and guidance. We go into more detail in a post to explain how virtual apprenticeship works.
Single procedure workshops
Why don’t we have separate eyeliner, lip and eyebrow classes? Why don’t we offer a stand-alone microblading course? Would you want a cosmetic surgery like breast enhancement by someone who didn’t attend medical school, but they took a 3 day workshop on breast augmentation? Would you feel comfortable a cavity filled by someone who took a workshop on fillings but had no education or schooling at a dental school? To be a permanent makeup artist, you need to understand skin, Fitzpatrick, color theory, manual methods (microblading), machine methods and much more. Learning blending, shading and fine line work opens you up to do any procedure, even body art tattoos. We are producing experts in the field of permanent makeup who are familiar with all procedures and precautions. Stand alone quick workshops do not fit our criteria for initial permanent makeup training and certification. Teaching a single procedure to individuals who have no background in permanent makeup is doing the students and the public a disservice.
Workshops for working professionals that introduce new or advanced methods and equipment are excellent and encouraged. They are not however an appropriate or effective environment for certifying new technicians who have no background in permanent makeup.
