Cold sores are a herpes virus that a client already carries. 42% of the population carries the virus. Many clients take an oral perscription anti-viral like Valtrax for several days before the procedure to prevent an outbreak. Irritation from the procedure may wake the virus during the healing process. A medication to prevent an outbreak during the healing process is not required but many clients find the healing process to be more comfortable if they are not dealing with a cold sore.
